" As rampant growth, urban development and environmental degradation
transform the physical world, artists respond by changing the way they
picture land. Many contemporary artists are suspicious and critical of
human impact on the earth. Through this exhibition, we examine the
transition from nostalgic vistas to bleak metropolis, focusing on the
landscapes that lie in between these opposing viewpoints."

Matt Kruback's work rearticulates the notions of the Sublime and the Classical Landscape in art, leaving the viewer with
a sense of both awe and anxiety. These paintings transcend reality, as ambiguous locations morph into a singular vision
of the natural world, suggesting a conglomeration of many landscapes at once. These pieces seduce the viewer with a
potent blend of fantasy and fiction, self-conscious constructions based on experience. Kruback achieves something more
poignant than reality by revealing a truth about the way people see nature: as a distant amalgam of homogenized imagery.

Kruback holds an MFA in painting from Arizona State University. He currently teaches painting and drawing and exhibits
his paintings throughout the US.
